Once it is completed by May 2014, the distance from Kampar New Town to Malim Nawar would cut short from 16km (by trunk road) to 4.06km.
Travellers would only need to travel about 9km from Kampar New Town to reach Tanjung Tualang to taste its famous freshwater prawn and visit the tin-mining dredge.
When contacted, Kinta district engineer Abu Bakar Mohd Said said streetlights and traffic lights would be installed at the junction of the new road.
He also said land embankment would be done at the sides of about ten ponds, on which the new road would be built on, to ensure the stability of the ground.
At the recent ground-breaking ceremony for the project, Kampar MP Datuk Lee Chee Leong told guests that a bridge would be built across the Sungai Kampar.
“A culvert will also be built over Sungai Kunyit,” he added.
Lee, who is deputy Home Minister, said Prime Minister had allocated RM5mil for the project whereas the remaining cost of RM28mil would be borne by the state government.
“It is a historical moment for us to remember as this is a mesra rakyat (people-friendly) project,” he said this during the ceremony at the site office near Kampung Changkat Belulang, Malim Nawar last month.
Lee said the road was expected to boost tourism in Kampar as travellers had better access to tourism sites.
